PEI Occupations in Demand Stream: Eligible Jobs and Rules

Occupations in Demand is a Workforce stream of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). Instead of setting a skill level, it names specific jobs. If a PEI employer offers you a permanent job in one of them and you meet the other rules, the province can nominate you for permanent residence. You then apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The January 2026 guide lists these National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes:

The TEER level is the second digit of the NOC code. Your job duties must match the NOC description, not just the job title.

Extra rule for truck drivers

Since August 19, 2021, applicants under NOC 73300 must have at least 12 months of long-haul truck driving experience, and the job must be with an eligible PEI employer. See Appendix E of the guide.

You must:

• have a full-time, non-seasonal, permanent job offer from a PEI employer in one of the listed occupations
• have at least one year of work experience directly related to the job
• be 18 to 59 years old
• have at least a secondary school (high school) diploma
• submit a valid language test from an IRCC-approved organization with at least CLB/NCLC 4 in English or French
• have enough money to pay immigration and travel costs and settle in PEI
• show a genuine intention to live in PEI

Note that this stream asks for a permanent job offer. Other Workforce streams also accept a two-year contract.

Can I be recruited from outside Canada?

Yes, in some cases. The guide says the stream may be used for recruitment outside Canada if the PEI employer receives authorization from the Office of Immigration before issuing the job offer. With approval, PEI provides a work permit support letter. Requests are reviewed case by case.

The employer must have operated in PEI under current ownership for at least two years, show it could not fill the job with Canadians, pay the comparable industry wage rate, and complete form PEIW-02. If you need a work permit, the employer registers in the federal Employer Portal and pays the $230 employer compliance fee. The Occupations in Demand column of the Labour Points Grid has six factors worth 100 points: age (15), language (20), education (15), work experience (20), employment (15) and adaptability (15).

Two details help here. Every education level from high school up earns the full 15 education points in this column. And a job offer related to your experience earns 10 employment points. Language is where many candidates can gain the most: CLB 9 or higher earns 20 points, CLB 7 earns 15, and the minimum CLB 4 earns none. Our CLB converter shows how test scores translate.

The provincial fee is $300 CAD (January 2026 guide). Federal fees for permanent residence, biometrics, and medical exams are extra, as are language tests and any translations.

PEI does not publish processing times. After nomination, you must apply to IRCC within six months. If you are nominated from abroad, you will usually apply for a work permit first with PEI's support letter so you can start working while permanent residence is processed.
