Privacy Policy

• You can read the whole site without giving us any personal information.
• We have no accounts, sign-ups, newsletters, forms, lead collection or payments.
• We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies.
• Our analytics tool counts visits in aggregate without cookies.
• Our hosting provider processes technical request data, such as your IP address, to deliver pages and keep the site secure.
• If you email us, we use your email to reply and for nothing else.
• We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

This policy covers NorthAmericans.com, including its English, Spanish and French pages ("we", "us"). It explains what information is processed when you visit the site or email us, why, and your choices.

It does not cover the government and other websites we link to. When you follow a link to an agency such as USCIS, IRCC or Mexico's National Migration Institute (INM), that site's own privacy policy applies.

Tools and search

Our calculators, the pathway finder and the site search run in your browser. What you type into them is not sent to us or stored by us. The search downloads a list of page titles to your device and matches your words there.

What we do not collect

We do not collect passport numbers, immigration case numbers, payment details or government account passwords, and we do not ask for them. Please do not email them to us.

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies. According to Vercel, Vercel Web Analytics works without third-party cookies: it identifies visitors by a hash created from the incoming request, does not store that visitor session permanently (it is discarded after 24 hours), and reports data in aggregate. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising networks or social media tracking pixels.

If we ever add cookies or tracking that the law requires consent for, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent where required.

We use information to run and secure the site, understand which pages readers find useful, fix errors, and answer emails.

We do not sell or rent personal information, share it for targeted advertising, build profiles of readers, or make automated decisions about you.

We share information only with:

• Vercel, which hosts the site and provides our analytics
• GitHub, which stores our source code and page content. It does not receive analytics or server logs about visitors to this site.
• Our email provider, which stores messages you send us
• Authorities, only if the law requires it
• A new owner, if the site is ever sold or merged, subject to this policy

Legal bases (visitors in the EU and UK)

Under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we rely on our legitimate interests to run, secure and understand the use of the site, and to answer messages you choose to send us. We rely on legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

Vercel and GitHub are based in the United States, so information may be processed in the US and other countries where they operate, under the safeguards described in their own privacy notices.

We keep information only as long as we need it:

• Analytics: the visitor hash is discarded after 24 hours; aggregated statistics, which do not identify you, may be kept longer.
• Server logs: kept for a limited period under our host's settings.
• Emails: kept while we answer and follow up, then deleted. Correction reports may be kept as part of our editorial record; you can ask us to remove your name and address from them.

Depending on where you live, privacy laws give you rights over your personal information. In general terms:

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not collect sensitive personal information.

Because we hold so little data, most requests will be about emails you sent us. To make a request, email contact@northamericans.com with the subject line Privacy. We may ask you to confirm that you control the email address involved. We will respond within the time the applicable law requires.

The site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and we limit who can access emails and service accounts. Collecting as little as possible is our main protection. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive documents by email.

The site is written for adults planning a move and is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 in places where that is the relevant age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We will update this policy when our practices change, and we will change the date at the top. If we ever add forms, accounts, lead collection, advertising cookies or a way to connect readers with professionals, we will update this policy before that feature goes live.
