Express Entry

Express Entry is the online system Canada uses to manage permanent residence applications for three federal economic programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST). Provinces can also nominate candidates from it.

How it works

  1. Create a profile if you meet at least one program's rules. Profiles last 12 months.
  2. You get a CRS score and join the pool.
  3. IRCC holds draws: general, program-specific, or category-based.
  4. If invited, you get an ITA and have 60 days to submit a full application.

In 2026, category-based draws include French, healthcare and social services, trades, education, STEM, physicians with Canadian experience, researchers, senior managers, transport, and military recruits. IRCC plans about 109,000 Express Entry admissions in 2026. IRCC consulted on reforms in 2026, but no program changes were in force as of September 2026.
