CEC (Canadian Experience Class)

The CEC, or Canadian Experience Class, is a federal permanent residence program managed through Express Entry for people who already have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada.

Main requirements

  • At least 1 year (1,560 hours) of paid skilled work in Canada in the last 3 years, in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job, while authorized to work.
  • Language: CLB 7 for TEER 0 and 1 jobs, or CLB 5 for TEER 2 and 3.
  • Plan to live outside Quebec.

Self-employment and work done while a full-time student do not count. Unlike FSW, CEC has no education requirement and no settlement funds requirement, although education adds CRS points.

Does work in the US count for CEC?

No. CEC requires skilled work experience in Canada.

Do I need proof of funds for CEC?

No. CEC applicants do not need to show settlement funds.

Can I apply if I left Canada?

Yes, if your qualifying Canadian work was within the last 3 years.
