CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks)
The CLB, or Canadian Language Benchmarks, is the national scale used to describe English ability in Canadian immigration, from level 1 to level 12, across listening, reading, writing, and speaking. IRCC converts your approved test scores into CLB levels.
How it works
IRCC accepts three English tests for economic immigration: IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, and PTE Core. Each score converts to a CLB level for each skill.

Frequently asked questions
What CLB do I need for Express Entry?
CLB 7 for FSW and for CEC TEER 0-1 jobs, and CLB 5 for CEC TEER 2-3 jobs. FST has lower minimums.
How long are language test results valid?
Two years from the test date for Express Entry.
Is IELTS Academic accepted?
No. For economic immigration IRCC accepts IELTS General Training, not Academic.
