FST (Federal Skilled Trades Program)
FST, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, is an Express Entry program for skilled tradespeople, such as electricians, welders, plumbers, and cooks, who want to become Canadian permanent residents.
Main requirements
- At least 2 years of full-time work (or equal part-time) in an eligible skilled trade within the last 5 years.
- Language: CLB 5 in speaking and listening, and CLB 4 in reading and writing.
- Either a valid full-time job offer of at least 1 year, or a certificate of qualification in your trade from a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.
- Meet the job requirements of the trade as set out in the NOC.
FST has no education requirement. Tradespeople may also be invited in trades category draws. Settlement funds are required unless you are authorized to work in Canada with a valid job offer. See our FST page and trades draws.
