Tarjeta de Residente (Mexican Resident Card)
The tarjeta de residente is the photo ID card issued by Mexico's National Migration Institute (INM) that proves you are a temporary or permanent resident of Mexico. It shows your immigration status, CURP, and, for temporary residents, the expiry date.
How it works
You usually receive your first card after the canje of a consular visa. A residente temporal card is valid for 1 year at first, then can be renewed for up to 3 more years in total. A residente permanente card for adults does not expire.
Carry it when you travel: you show it instead of an FMM when entering Mexico. You must tell INM within 90 days about changes such as a new address, employer, nationality, or marital status.
