Menaje de Casa (Household Goods Import)

Menaje de casa is Mexico's one-time exemption that lets new residents, and Mexicans returning home, bring their used household goods into the country without paying import duties.

How it works

  • You generally need a residency visa or card (residente temporal or residente permanente).
  • You prepare a detailed list of items, usually in Spanish, with serial numbers for electronics, and have it certified by a Mexican consulate for a fee.
  • The shipment must arrive within a set period after you get residency; check with the consulate and customs.
  • Most people use a customs broker (agente aduanal).
