DS-260 (Immigrant Visa Application)

The DS-260 is the US State Department's Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application. People getting a green card through consular processing file it online after the National Visa Center (NVC) opens their case.

How it works

After USCIS approves your petition, the NVC sends a case number. You log in to the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC), pay fees, and complete the DS-260. Each family member immigrating needs their own DS-260.

The form covers your personal details, addresses, work history, family, and security and background questions. Your answers must match the documents you upload and what you say at the interview.

After NVC reviews your documents, the case goes to the consulate for an interview. Temporary visa applicants use the DS-160 instead. See consular processing and our consular processing guide.

Can I change my DS-260 after submitting?

You can ask NVC to reopen it, or correct information at the interview.

Is the DS-260 the same as the DS-160?

No. The DS-260 is for immigrant visas; the DS-160 is for temporary visas.
