COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence)
A COPR, or Confirmation of Permanent Residence, is the document IRCC issues when your permanent residence application is approved. You become a permanent resident only when you complete landing, in person at a port of entry or online, before the COPR expires.
How it works
Many applicants now get an electronic COPR (eCOPR) through IRCC's online PR confirmation portal. People who need a visa to travel also receive a permanent resident visa counterfoil in their passport.
The COPR has an expiry date, usually based on your medical exam date or passport expiry, whichever comes first. It cannot normally be extended, so plan travel or landing early.

Am I a permanent resident when I get my COPR?
Not yet. You become a PR once you complete landing.
What if my COPR expires before I land?
Contact IRCC immediately. Expired COPRs usually cannot be used, and you may need to reapply.
Can I land at the border by flagpoling?
Some people land at a port of entry, but many in Canada now use the online PR portal.
