Mexican Consulate in Dallas: Residency Visa Requirements and Process

The Consulate General of Mexico in Dallas serves people who live in its consular district in Texas. Its visa page explains that temporary residency applies when you will stay in Mexico more than 180 days for retirement, investments, professional, technical, artistic, scientific, or sports activities, or as a minister of religion, without permission to do paid work in Mexico.

Mexican consulates in the US book appointments through MiConsulado (online at citas.sre.gob.mx, or by phone or WhatsApp at +1 424 309 0009). Select the Dallas consulate and a visa procedure. Check the consulate's home page for its current hours and any notices about appointments.

Each applicant usually needs their own appointment, and you should book only when your documents are complete.

The Dallas consulate's temporary residency list includes:

• The visa application.
• A valid passport, original, and one copy of the pages with your personal information and all your US visas.
• One passport-size photo, no glasses.
• Proof of US status, if applicable: I-94 or ESTA, advance parole, a signed I-20, or a signed I-797.
• Proof of economic solvency: original and copy of 12 consecutive months of bank or investment statements showing the minimum month-end balance, or original and copy of bank statements showing 6 months of deposits from a job or pension at or above the minimum monthly amount.
• If a Mexican company, organization, or association is sponsoring or inviting you: an original invitation letter on letterhead, with address and signature. Ministers of religion bring the Interior Ministry's letter of consent.

Mexico's visa guidelines, in force since August 9, 2025, set the financial tests in days of UMA. With the 2026 UMA of 117.31 pesos a day:

When we checked the Dallas visa page in September 2026, it listed a minimum month-end balance of US$69,597 or monthly deposits of US$4,129.64. Those figures match the 2025 UMA (113.14 pesos) rather than the 2026 UMA (117.31 pesos). Other consulates' 2026 sheets list higher amounts, for example US$4,510 a month at San Diego and US$4,630 at Las Vegas.

The Dallas visa page listed a fee of US$54 payable in cash or by credit or debit card (Visa or Mastercard) when we checked. Several other US consulates list US$56 for 2026, so confirm the current amount. The fee is generally not refunded if the visa is refused.

A residency visa is valid for one entry within 180 days. When you arrive, tell the immigration officer you are entering with a residency visa. Then, within 30 calendar days, apply at the National Migration Institute (INM) for your resident card. See the canje.
