Mexican Consulate in Atlanta: Residency Visa Requirements and Process

The Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta serves people who live in its consular district, which includes Georgia. Its visa page lists temporary residency (for stays over 180 days and up to 4 years) on these grounds:

1. Economic solvency.
2. Scientific research in Mexican waters.
3. An invitation from a public or private organization.
4. An international mobility agreement.
5. Family unity.
6. Real estate in Mexico.
7. Investment.

For each, you bring a valid passport, proof of legal status in the US if you are not a US citizen, and the documents for your ground.

The Atlanta consulate's visa page gives step-by-step instructions for booking in MiConsulado (citas.sre.gob.mx, using Google Chrome), or you can call 1 (424) 309-0009. Appointments are individual and non-transferable.

1. Before booking, review the requirements for your procedure so you have everything on the day.
2. Create a MiConsulado account (or log in) and accept the terms.
3. Select Schedule. In Step 1, choose Country: United States, State: Georgia, Consular office: Atlanta.
4. Enter the applicant's details. If you have a CURP, enter it; otherwise choose to add details manually.
5. In Step 2, choose Visas, then either without INM permission (tourism, temporary residency, temporary resident student, or permanent residency) or with INM permission if you have a NUT from an employer's INM authorization.

• The visa application form, completed.
• A valid passport, original.
• Original proof of legal status in the US, if you are not a US citizen.
• A photo meeting Mexico's size rules.
• Documents for your ground: 6 months of income records or 12 months of statements, a property deed, investment records, an invitation letter, or family certificates.
• Apostilles and Spanish translations for documents from third countries.

Mexico's visa guidelines, in force since August 9, 2025, set the financial tests in days of UMA. With the 2026 UMA of 117.31 pesos a day:

The consulate converts these amounts into US dollars. Ask for, or download, its current figures. For comparison, 2026 sheets from other US consulates list about US$4,200 to US$4,630 a month for temporary residency. Use the solvency calculator. The Atlanta visa page listed the fee for receiving and deciding a visa application as US$54 when we checked. Other US consulates list US$56 for 2026, so confirm the current amount and payment methods before your appointment.

A residency visa is valid for one entry within 180 days. When you arrive, tell the immigration officer you are entering with a residency visa. Then, within 30 calendar days, apply at the National Migration Institute (INM) for your resident card. See the canje.
