Form N-400 (Application for Naturalization)

Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, is the USCIS form a lawful permanent resident files to become a US citizen. It covers your residence, travel, work, family, and moral character history.

How it works

You can file up to 90 days before you meet the 5-year (or 3-year for spouses of citizens) continuous residence requirement. Filing online is available and lets you track the case in your USCIS account.

After filing you attend biometrics, then an interview where an officer reviews your N-400 and gives the English and civics tests. If approved, you take the oath of allegiance and become a citizen.
